Which project you did ?
Design and build a self propelled vehicle
This week I decided to build a self propelled vehicle.
I never thought it would be such a challenge for me. I spent several days building and testing and nothing worked. I was pretty frustrated, but I just didn't want to give up.
I read and looked a lot about it on the internet. At first sight, the things look really easy, but once you try them out, it doesn't work.
until I came to this vehicle:
First I made a sketch, then I looked for the materials and started to build it.
I made holes in the straws and the lids. I build everything together. The small sticks are for stability and with the rubber bands you pull the whole thing up so that it can drive - sounds simple
What you learned by doing it ?
This time I've learned a few things
In any case, don't give up so easily. I had a completely different idea in the beginning, but it didn't work at all. I tried it and tried it.
Also I learned that the wheels (the lids) should be more stable. But I searched everywhere and unfortunately I only found these types of lids. I also tried other things that you could use as wheels, but these lids still worked best.
It also depends on which rubber bands you use. I first tried it with a big and long rubber band, but then I noticed that it works better with small and thin rubber bands.
What went well ?
On this model it actually worked really well to put it together.
It was easy and quick to assemble.
What didn’t go so well ?
all the other vehicles I had tried...
With this one, unfortunately, it didn't work so well that it won't drive itself for long.
I tried many things to change that, but it just didn't work out.
And as I said, the wheels are not as good or as stable as I would like them to be.
Include photos or videos if possible.

this model was one of my first, but it did not work.
